CHICAGO, Ill. (VBNEWS) - The Chicago Park District has installed a new sign at Garfield Park honoring longtime community leader Jim Hobson, a four-time Hall of Fame inductee and two-time Citizen of the Year.
The recognition is drawing attention because it appears to be a rare exception to the park district’s own policy, which does not typically honor living former employees.
Under current guidelines, recognition is usually reserved for individuals after they have passed.

As a decorated U.S. Army Vietnam veteran who served as an infantry squad leader, Hobson’s lifelong commitment to service both in uniform and in his community makes the honor feel, to many supporters, like a fitting tribute rather than an exception.
They believe his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
